Dental Exams 

When you visit us for your regular six-month check up exam, you receive a dental exam from your dentist and cleaning from your dental hygienist.

Every examination includes multiple steps to check for any signs or symptoms that indicate dental concerns:

• X-rays reveal what is happening with the your teeth and jaw bones,  above and below the tissue covering your jaw bones , A few things we can visualize with x- rays are decay- I.e. cavities, abscessed teeth, impacted teeth, locations of future teeth forming in the jaw, tumors, cysts, bone loss, nerve canals.
• Oral cancer screening 
• Gum-Periodontal disease evaluation assesses the gums and bone around the teeth
• Examination of tooth surfaces checks for decay, the condition of fillings and crowns, and overall condition of the teeth
• TMJ, jaw joint screening

Digital X-Rays & 3-D Scans

X-rays are one of the most important tools your dentist uses to learn about the condition of your teeth and jaw bones. Sycamore Dental is committed to using digital x-rays in order to limit the level of radiation involved in the x-ray process, help patients feel more comfortable, and eliminate the time and resources needed to develop film x-rays.

You won’t need to undergo x-rays at every dental appointment. Instead, your dentist will recommend necessary x-rays based upon factors such as your age, risk of disease, and dental history.

We take a full mouth series of x-rays for all new patients, plus a full series every three to five years to track the condition of the mouth. X-rays of just the top and bottom teeth biting together are recommended once or twice a year to make sure new dental problems aren’t overlooked.

It is always our goal to ensure digital x-rays are used to protect and enhance your oral health.

Dental Cleaning- Guided Biofilm Therapy

Your dental cleaning, also called a dental prophylaxis or guided biofilm therapy, is performed to do the following:

• Disclose biofilm on the teeth and soft structures, visualize where plaque and calculus are stuck to your teeth.
• Assist patients in learning how to clean surfaces of your teeth that are difficult to reach.
• Remove Biofilm
• Remove plaque, the sticky substance that inflames the gums and causes decay
• Remove calculus-tartar, the hardened plaque that leads to advanced periodontal disease
• Measure periodontal pockets around each tooth, test for mobility of teeth
• Apply prescribed tooth varnishes such as remineralization paste, fluoride, and or antibacterial agents.

It’s essential to visit your dentist every three to six months for a cleaning. Without regular attention from your dentist, you could develop cavities, gum-periodontal disease, and other serious problems that are much easier to resolve when caught early.

This system reduces the need to use traditional electric or hand instruments during teeth cleaning treatments.
